Biography

My evolution as an artist took 46 years. I was born in the Midwest, where at an early age I began to sketch contemporary designs, although I never recognized them as an expression or art. I completed college, started my career, and as a result, my sketching became less frequent. However, whenever I listened to jazz, it would trigger a re-emergence of my drawings. I then realized they were a visual expression of my response to the piece.? ?Eventually, I subconsciously began to fill my home with art that was similar to my drawings: abstract and contemporary. I would study the materials, construction, and design, all the while secretly wondering if I might possess the skills to create such art.? ?It wasn't until I explored the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art that I realized that the visual expressions I had been sketching could indeed become three-dimensional pieces of sculpture. I remember seeing what on first glance appeared to be a simple sculpture. I stood before it for what seemed like hours evaluating its form and complexity. In that moment of epiphany, I understood that this was the medium I had been longing for.? ?With no formal art education or training, I turned to "do-it-yourself" programs and home improvement centers. There I learned how to use tools and techniques to transform my drawings into sculpture. After a great deal of trial and error, my expressions began to take form. Soon after, my jazz-induced visions, or JazzinVisions was born.
