“My son attends West Wind as a Junior he is involved in every sport there is. He absolutely loves this school! He attended a Public school his freshman year, and his academics were very poor. Since WestWind he has improved dramatically in his academics. Most of the teachers are most helpful and wanting to see success in their students, while others i question. My nephews have also attending this school back in 2003 and they loved it. It is small school, not over crowded with alot of students.”

“I am a freshman at Westwind and I love it. They are pretty strict especially with like cellphones and discipline. Almost all of the teachers are amazing. The principal is not my favorite peron though. my favorite person though”

“I would recommend this school to other parents. My daughter was at a large school but wanted to be in smaller classes. The school has grown leaps and bounds in the area of extracurricular activities. They are now a part of AIA. My daughter has participated in volleyball, basketball and cheer. She is also a part of National Honor Society. Now that the school has been around for ten years, they have established some traditions that both students and parents enjoy. We have another daughter who transferred here from a private school, and she is liking it, too.”

“My children have attended this charter high/middle school since it first opened. While we have been through them working out the kinks, we have also seen much growth and improvement. It is often difficult for students/parents to have continuous change (faculty/staff turn-over, school/class structure and schedules, dress-code, activities, site, etc.), and makes planning a challenge. Academics are a top priority. I have seen several students receive scholarships to universities. If they provided more guidance in applying there could have been many more. W.A. provides many avenues for parent/teacher communication, but there is not always good follow through. Some small changes could have a big impact.”

“I would highly recommend this school. We have had a wonderful experience, both in the classroom and extracurricular activities. Fall of 2004 was the first experience into 2A level in sports and all the students involved has a most wonderful time. Fall of 2005 will get even better. The teachers and the classes are challenging and my student has ended this past year in honor status and also participated in sports.”

“The school is ok if you are looking for a small school. It is pretty well mixed too. They dont have a gym, or any kind of work out center. The sports teams have losing streaks in fact they onlt win maybe one game out of the entire season. There is no free lunchs, busride, or anything like that. One good thing about this school is how much it is into computers. Other than that i dont really recomment this school.”

“We value input from parents and students; and we have learned from the comments in this section. A point of clarification: We have traditional classrooms with ten student computers in each class. The teacher-led classes use computers only to support instruction and help students become computer literate. One measure of our success is that in the last two years, over 90% of our graduates have gone on to higher education.”

“Westwind Prep is an excellent school. The staff and teachers are well trained and some of the best I have ever dealt with. The students are receiving an excellent education and do not work on the computers for the majority of their day as someone stated earlier. Westwind Prep is not a school for at-risk students. Students receive a lot of classroom instruction. Students are actually held accountable for their actions at this school which is more than I could say for many other schools. More parent participation would be a plus, we can't expect the schools to do it on their own, we are still responsible for raising our children. Overall, Westwind Prep has a great reputation and great grad-rate, I would highly recommend it to any concerned parent out there that is searching for a better education for their child.”

“This is an excellent school with a very caring staff. They work very hard in helping at-need students in a small environment, and teacher-parent communication is fantastic! Teachers are always available before and after school, but it's up to the students to take advantage of that. I like the 4 day schedule with a Friday off as an incentive to perform well in academics. A technology based school is also a plus, because technology is the wave of the future!”

“As a charter school they are required to open enrollment to all students searching for a better education. Some 'parents' feel that a 'troubled' student should enroll in a charter school and that will make it all better. That is not the intent of any educational group. Westwind has tightened up the 'behavior' requirements in this last year so that they do not become just like the public schools they try so hard to disassociate with. Misbehavior and disrespect are not tolerated at this campus - and that is a fact. If you are interested in a smaller campus, a motivational and encouraging learning environment, and staff that is concerned with the emotional and educational well being of your child then Westwind is the place for your son/daughter. I would encourage more parents to become active for this is the only weak point - wThis is perhaps a battle at any school. The school actively encourages parents input with curriculum, rules, or disciplinary matters. The four day week was exceptional for my student, it is a reward for completing all work on time. If the fifth day is required-the staff are available to help make up learning diffeciencies.”

“I pulled my granddaughter out of this school after two terms. She was failing everything. She complained that the teachers are on thier computers all day and dont give much help. Classes are computer based which does not teach. Not enough teacher student interaction. I transfered her to another School which is a perp. school and is year round. Principal has a tramendousamount of vision and great teachrs. She brought home Two A's and two B's her first nine weeks their. Westwind only has 4 day weeks and make up is a joke. The kids dont take it seriously.In my opinion the school should be closed down.”
