Cactus View Elementary School Reviews

My daughter's teacher is Very qualified and responsive.

Honestly - The staff has been great and initially my children flourished when they first started the 2005-06 school year. The problem we are having now is with the students and their ability to have such negative influence on both my children. My children have exprienced extensive and ongoing bully like behaviors that have only been addressed once the faculty has been confronted rather than as they occurred by the teachers/duty aides. The community has been a disappointment and has evidently influenced my childrens learning and grades. I'm not sure how concerned anyone is there about these issues. They do have the integrated grades online to see your childrens grades but I do wish they were more concerned about seeing an Honor Student drop from honors status to failing his current grade within the first qtr of the school yr. No direct contact has been made from staff re: these issues.

Excellent School! We love the teachers and the entire staff!

Love cactus view! my children had a bully incident and it did not go ignored, it was taken care of - fast with rigid consequences. Truly exercising its ability to take control of complex situations. C.V examplified what a bully policy is.

Cactus View is by far one of the best schools my children have attended. The teachers are outstanding and the staff is wonderful. The parent/student participation is unbelievable. Great job Cactus View!

Outstanding principle, teachers, office staff and teaching methods. Well-run, well-organized schoo. By far, the best school any of my children have attended in Phoenix.

I have been very happy with Cactus View, until this last year, the second grade teacher my daughter had tried to discipline the kids as if they were the 6th graders she used to teach. If the kids did not use specific hand signs to ask a question they got detention. I am hoping the 3rd grade teacher is alot better at understanding the children she is teaching.

I think that the discipline measures that they are trying to use are

Cactus View is a decent school. The students represent a large range of cultural and economic backgrounds. The curriculum is soft and I don't feel it was challenging enough or prepared them properly for higher grades.

my children are happy and well taken care of. The teachers are great

Cactus View is an incredible Elementary School. My son only continued to exceed as each year passed at Cactus View. Sixth grade was by far his best year and has since moved on to 7th grade at a not so great school but has continued to excel with straight A's. I thank all the teachers for their sincere dedication to teaching the kids not only the academics, but valuable lessons that will hold strong in my sons future.

Cactus View has great hightly motivated teachers. My children have had a great experience since they have been attending it. They need more extracurricular activities and the PE class isn't really about sports, that's the main disadvantage I've found.

Jan Stevens is very responsive to the indiviaul student's needs and requirements and makes every effort to know and assist in each child's development as do the teachers who work very hard to make sure Cactus View is a safe and fair environment.

Our son is in his first year at Cactus View and is thriving under the care of his special needs teachers. He has speech delays, and has made remarkable progress since receiving weekly one-on-one tutoring (which was not offered at his prior school). Our experience with faculty and staff has been very positive.

the school has been very good as far as academics. They have also tried really hard to have the kids all get along. There are always a few problems, but for the most part it is a very well-mannered school. It is kept very clean and they have a lot to offer.

I agree with the parent who noted that the sixth grade math program is giving our children a superior start, only to send them to a less than stellar middle school. The district really needs to wake up to this fact!

Outstanding sixth grade program! The students get such an upper hand in math that it's a shame the middle school they are mandated to attend (school boundaries) will make them start all over again due to the other feeder schools!

I am a teacher at Cactus View and have taught at 6 different schools in different areas. Cactus View teachers spend a lot of their own time making sure the students at our school get the best education possible.

I have been very dissapointed with cactus view this year, there are several different reasons why. Mainly because the lack of staff in areas where needed during breaks and recesss.

My friend's children attend this school and she has been very happy with it. They are doing very well in their classes and like their teachers. I will try to enroll my kids here next year.

I'm concerned with class size and I feel there is not enough supervision, especially on the playground. I also have to cross my child most mornings because there is no crossing guard. I'm glad that I am available to do so but sometimes the other kids sit there in the cold for awhile before someone comes to cross them. I'm happy with my child's teacher this year but was not in the third grade. There were too many times that the children were allowed to disrupt the class which means other students are not getting the most out of the class that they should. This year in fourth grade there are 30 students. This is unacceptable in my eyes. If it wasn't for the teacher I would have pulled my child out already.

I am so happy that the library position was returned to a full position. It's so nice to see that no reading programs were cut. The staff is so helpful and friendly. Join me in supporting our school by joining the PTSA. What a valuable way to spend only $4.

I have been very pleased with this school's last two principals, both of whom have demonstrated a high level of dedication toward learning. Although the current principal, and the majority of teachers, have shown many times over their support of a safe environment, I believe additional training is needed for teachers and those who supervise lunch and recess activities. Too much harmful teasing is allowed to go unreported and unresolved; leaving vulnerable students emotionally scarred. I would like to see all PVUSD schools proactively commit toward a curriculum of inclusion, beginning from the start of kindergarten. Our children need to learn how to accept the differences in others, understand the negative effects of repetitive teasing and become aware of how this creates disastrous bullying and victim behaviors.

As with all schools, I think there needs to be a more effective anti-bullying policy that works for the victims when they ask for help.

I have experienced all of the K-6 grade levels at Cactus View and would recommend the school to anyone. The few unfortunate problems the school does have stems from District issues, not the school itself or the principal. The Site Council was put in a very difficult situation this year of cutting some special areas due to demands from the District but all areas (including art and library) are still offered at least on a part time basis. Let's hope the school district gets its act together so this school can blossom in the way we know it can!

Due to budget cuts the site council at this school has made the mistake of cutting an important reading program from this school. Next year the school will be limited to a half class of library and art. The state requires that when a student graduates from high school that they know how to use a library. The students at this school will not have this knowledge due to this cut. In addition the school has spent a lot of money on a reading program that will be canceled next year.

The teachers at Cactus View are sincere in their care and concern for the growth of each child. Every teacher has strived to meet the special needs of my son, while keeping me informed of their plan, status, improvements and setbacks. My son loves going to school and feels very safe while he is there. As with any institution, there are always a few teachers that miss the boat, but this sentiment only applies to 1 or 2 teachers. The principal and staff also become very involved with each student and are always available to talk with parents.

First rate teachers and staff...The kids really do come first at Cactus View! Due to recent district wide budget cuts, some of the extra programs have been cut back, but the overall education is still diverse and at a high level! School also has a VERY active PTSA that lends to many extra attraction at the school! Many family fun nights, reading programs, and extra field trips, to name a few things, are made possible by this group of volunteers!

Cactus View has been a wonderful school for my child and he has really excelled with some teachers. As with all schools, there are some teachers that need improvement.

For the most part I have been very happy with the school. There are a few things that could use inproving, but most of these I understand are under control of the district, such as the quality of the food and the menu of the school lunches.
