Desert Vista High School Reviews

10 for 10...DV is the place to be. Always classy. The teachers are great and push students to do and be more!

I have had 2 children attend DV - 8 years of involvement. My experience has been the same as most. The administration provides an excellent environment for those students who are self-disciplined, motivated and athletic and academic achievers, which I am fortunate enough to have 1 of. However, not much time or energy available for those who are just 'average', and for those who are 'special needs', again, unless they are interested in being a basketball team manager (1space). Not much emphasis on their experience. If your student is a 'super-star' this may be a school that has something to offer you. We, the long-time residents and parents refer to it as the 'haves and have nots' school. I don't believe a publicly funded school should be so exclusive. The administration shares these same behaviors with the parents of each student class, as well. Keep looking...

Great school with high standards. My child was more than prepared to enter a university after attending 4 years there.

They have really done a fabulous job dealing with my special needs teen so far in the 1.5 yrs he's been @ DV. While nothing is perfect, this school stands head and shoulders above the charter school our son attended in 2nd grade and the private schools he attended in grades 1 and 3-4.

While this school has a great deal to offer regarding extra curricular activities, some of the teachers leave a great deal to be desired. While many spell out their expectations of what students need to do to earn an 'A', others are quite capricious and fickle. They don't like to be challenged when they have issued a grade that was unexpectedl low.

This is my seventh year that one of my kids is at DV. DV has an excellent math department and excels at a variety of fine arts and athletics. Principal Battle is really involved with the students and supportive of teachers and coaches.

My daughter and son graduated from this school. They now both go to top universities and were able to keep up well, with the demanding curriculum. It's a wonder how this school is a public school in Arizona. We usually have to pay extreme amounts of money for such a high quality education.

My daughter graduated from dv may 2006 and is now attending asu. She had a blast in her 4 years and academically excelled. Aims scholorship winner, 4 year performer with 'gut'(goot) at dv dance and cheered for coach rad in varsity cheer. This high school and its great people have so much to offer a young person with the drive to learn. It's all there in one campus. New principal anna battle is very involved with her 2900+ kids and is already highly respected. In my opinion one of the top public high schools in the state....Maybe #1.

First off, I have to say that I am a student, not a parent, and that Desert Vista is truly an outstanding school. I no longer go here because I moved to another state because my fathers job relocated him. So anyway, I would like to say that the teachers at Desert Vista are amazing and every teacher I have had really puts effort into teaching. The extracurricular activities at Desert Vista are very well recognized. DV is number one in the state for their Speech Theatre and Debate team. Desert Vista is located in a very nice part of the town and is very very safe. You want your child to be able to go to school and not worry about violence and things like that, well this is that type of school. Overall this is an amazing school and I would recommend anyone to attend school at Desert Vista.

DV is arguably the best high school in the state of Arizona. Outstanding academics, fine arts, and athletics. This is evidenced in numerous state championships, both athletic and academic. A math department that is second to none. Parents that care without trying to rule the school. With close to 3,000 students, there is literally something for everyone. I have had one child that graduated with the class of 2003. His teachers and counselors were always available to us. My other child is a member of the class of 2007 and would not trade this high school for any other. Keep up the great work administration and staff.

its a great school with good programs.

The quality of instruction is superior at Desert Vista. The students have a multitude of academic and non-academic electives, including numerous AP and honors courses. The math and social studies departments are superior! The students have so many extracurricular activities to choose from, everyone can find their niche here. We choose to move to Ahwatukee so that our children will attend Desert Vista. I plan to dedicate my teaching career to this wonderful school!

My daughter has had an amazing freshmen year at dv... Love her language arts teacher who happens to be the debate coach..1St in the state... The drama program is excellent...

Academics are the best, however teachers and staff are not that great!

Academics and extracurricular are superior

DVHS offers several levels of academic programs: remedial, regular, honors and AP. There are honors courses in every acadeemic area and 17 AP courses (science, math, arts, computer, english, history, social sciences). The Math Department at DV is ranked #1 in the state of Arizona. Teachers are always available to help students before or after school. Teachers challenge students and provide opportunities for academic advancement if the student has the desire. Many teachers have websites to help students keep up with homework and succeed in class. There are classes in the arts (music, drama, dance, visual arts). There are many opportunities for students to get involved in sports, extracurricular activities and voluneteering. DV is an excellent school that fosters excellence in academics, character and independence.

As a 2004 graduate, I can say that Desert Vista's academics were outstanding. Classes were challenging, the teachers were encouraging, and after graduation, I felt more than ready to take on the college classes that were ahead of me. Extra-curricular activites, clubs, and sports were numerous, and many of the students were involved. I believe DV is all around one of the best schools in the state. If I were to choose one area that could be improved, it would be school spirit. However, I think that is an exceptionally minor issue when looking into a high school.

From a Students POV this is a great school with great people. The teachers are amazing and very good at what they do. We have a lot of school sprit and a lot of fun. You will meet all kinds of amazing teachers, faculity, and students. That you will not only gain friendships from but whom you will constantly learn something. You may learn something new about a person, a culture, a celebrity, or it might just be a new way to write a paper, but regardless this school is going to stick with you forever.

All programs are run well and there is a great level of parent involvement.

There's a large number of extracurricular activities for the student to choose from. The teachers we've dealt with are very involved in giving their students every tool they need to succeed. Some of their policies are strict, but they don't seem to enforce them as they should. (dress code mostly).

We are very impressed with all that Desert Vista High School has to offer! It has a vast array of elective classes available for students to choose from, which will assist them in the right direction regarding their future career choices! There are many sports programs and various activities for the students to take part in as well! We are very excited that our girls will be attending Desert Vista, as it is an excelling school with an outstanding reputation!

We love Desert Vista! It is a very large school and we were worried about that, but my freshman, daughter has had a fantastic year. There are a lot of opportunities for academics and extra-curricular activities. She has been involved in Speech and Debate (the best team in the state!) and Key Club. She says that it's so big that there aren't the clicks that you hear about in other schools. She has thrived here. We highly recommend this great school!

I am new to the area and so far everything I have seen at the school has been great.

As a parent of a Desert Vista student, I am happy with the academics at this school. Now, DV has the same student issues as most high schools today, however, they do a good job at not letting them interfere with the academics available to those students who choose to pursue them.

My son graduated from Desert Vista in 2001.His teachers could always get him interested in the curriculum and he loved going to school...if teachers and staff can get the students involved and interested in learning, I think that's half the battle. And in my opinion, Desert Vista isthe best that there is at the present time!

My daughter is a Sophomore at Desert Vista. I moved into the area when she was in fourth grade because I wanted her to attend this school. I am also an educator and believe in the mission statement and goals of DVHS. I support the administration and the teachers for helping my daughter when she needed help. I love this school and I am proud that my daughter attends it.

The administration of DV needs to quit using their underhanded tactics of recruiting student athletes. There is not much of a variety here. Unless you're an athlete or a scholar, you're not seen as much more than a number to the principal. However, most teachers are excellent.

It is my opinion that this school is a wonderful facility for education. my daughter has never quite fit in at school, and then she came to DV and immediately was able to make friends. the staff there help make everybody safe, welcome and are consistently make each day brighter than the one before. Desert Vista cares about it's students and does everything it can to help students out. I can think of no better [place to send my child, than Desert Vista.

That [They] are so worried about being a college prep high school that the special educ students and other students are left behind. I ask them to test my son the first day of school a year ago Aug and it took them until las Nov. They were out of compliance!I also have an older child who attends and he has had some wonderful teacher and then some who don't seen so interested in teaching.
