Indian Bend Elementary School Reviews

I am very disappointed in Indian Bend. I love the principal and vice principal. I also love the diversity in the students. However, I have had to beg teachers to give me reinforcement activities for my child at home. I get nothing. I think this is because this is such a large ELL school, that the English speakers are just out of luck. If I had of known it was run in this manner, my children would not have enrolled at this school. They also don't seem to be getting even moderately close to hitting the AZ state standards. This school is a huge disappointment!

My child attended K and part of 1st here. I do not feel as if she is challenged enough.

We were primarily disappointed with the lack of involvement of the principal and the lack of educational support from the teachers. There was not enough homework being sent home by the teachers and we had to supplement our son's homework with our own. This is all too bad as we live right next to the school. We now send our children to another school within the school district.

The world of education is constantly changing and a lot of the changes are mandated by the state and school disticts. Indian Bend has gone through some changes in staffing in the past few years, and has now reached a place where all of the teachers that are there, want to be there. The principal works extremely hard to keep the school running smoothly. She is dedicated to making IB the best it can be. Test scores are on the rise, and proper preparation is given to students. All curriculum and instruction is aligned with the Arizona State Academic Standards, and teachers provide meaningful activities to students. I am very surprised by some of the reviews on this page, as all of my experiences with this school and it's staff have been very positive. If you are considering enrolling your child in this school, visit the campus and see for yourself!

Indian Bend is providing a top notch education for the students that enter their doors. Everything is done in a manner that is best for kids. Like it or not test scores are the name of the game.

We will not be sending our 4th grader back to this school. Poor test scores tell the story. Our child's teachers don't believe in homework, administrators have been downright rude to us and other concerned parents who question why commitments for special education needs are not being kept. We are tired of feeling like the enemy as concerned parents when dealing with the principal and staff who ignored and resisted our efforts to advocate for special education needs and extended school year.

My 1st grade child enjoys her classes, and seems to be learning at a good pace, but the facilities concern me.

My child has been attending I.B.for the past four years. As the years pass the teachers dedication is decling alot. The 'specials' are a joke.

1.) Safety - Poor - Accident looking for a place to happen. Teaching AIMS only! They have eliminated all other forms of education leading to a rounded education.. (ie. Art, Music. etc.) School located in an area of transition (homes).

Have had four children attend this school and for the most part our experience has been positive. Use to be in the upper income level of PVSD but due to new development is now on the lowere end.

I see lots of comments about the new principal and too many teachers leaving. The new principal came in on a year when they had to begin implementation of the plan of improvement on a plan that she didn't design! Our principal at indian bend has always put children first and will continue to do so. The staff are wonderful, hardworking, and there for the right reasons! With supportive parent involvement, any child can succeed at indian bend.

Yes, this school has had many changes in the past few years but I think the Principal and staff have a vision. If my child does not pass the AIMS test he does not graduate. The teachers are doing their best so my child gets a good education. If they start now he will not pay the price later. I like that in this school. If more parents got involved it would be great. Not to many parents show up at school meetings. Change is good, but different. Sometimes people do not like change. I like the vision. Change can be good.

Indian Bend was my school since I was in Kindergarten. The acedemic rate on a scale of 1- 10 in my opinion would be 10. There aren't many extracurricular activities and teacher involvement would be 10 also.

We have had our children in this school for the past 12 years. And now we are forced to pull our 3rd grader and put her in a new school because this school is going down very fast. The principle under-minds everyone from teachers and staff to concerned parents. Half the staff has left and many more are leaving this year. I am moving my child because I care about her future. Look at the test scores and you will see for yourself. The make my day program is a joke, they went way overboard and the kids have no freedom to just have fun. If you care about your childs future please check other schools in the area, this is not the one you want to attend.

This school has been a failure for my 3rd grader who still has not mastered proficiency in reading, spelling, writing and math. Since kindergarten, teachers have noted low scores but blamed the child rather than poor classroom instruction. When we advocated as parents for special education, school administrators did not help us understand our options, delayed providing reports and could not explain how they failed for 4 years to educate our child. Since when is 53% a 'passing' grade? Ridiculous! We transferred our child to an excellent public charter school and are now seeing immediate improvement!

I think this school is going downhill very quickly. It used to be one of the best schools in Phoenix. Since we have had a 'turn over' with the staffing - the school is getting rediculous. Too many bad things to say about the school.

I was happy with this school up until last year (2003-2004) Lots of things changed when the new principal came and a lot of the best teachers left the school at the end of 2004 to teach at other schools. Also there is a problem with the amount of children that speak english. There are more and more non english speaking children. We sold our home and moved to get pur children in another school.

I think that Make Your Day has been a very positive program for these kids. They needed the structure that the program provides.

This is an excellent school. It is A+. Just recently put in a new baseball field. The teachers are terrific. Really good learning environment. Very safe school.

The schools curiclum should reflect more than what is on the AIMS test. It seems the school is only worried about their overall score. My first grader has so many spelling words she memorizes them one week and forgets them the next. My 3rd and 5th grader was given a study AIMS test to cover before they took it. Shouldn't we be teaching our children skills to remember information throughout their lives, rather than for two weeks.

I feel like my kid is just a number here at Indian Bend. There is a real push to overly standardize everything from simplistic grading criteria to one size fits all teaching methods and rate of learning expectations. To sum it up, this school needs to be more proactive in reporting meaningful feedback more often. 15 minutes 4 times a year to find out your kid is either an 1, 2, or 3 is not very reflective or informative nor does it draw out any particular strengths or natural abilties your indivdual child may have. The school is generally lacking in service, effectiveness, and creativity.
