Jefferson Elementary School Reviews

Jefferson has new leadership and has undergone extensive changes in the last year and a half. Under the direction and expertise of Dr. Timothy Moe (Principal). and leadership and the hard work of a caring, dedicated and professional staff the school has gone from an underperforming status to a status of 'Performing Plus'. This is quite an amazing accomplishment considering this was accomplished in one school year. I am proud and honored to have both of my grand children educated at this uniquely diverse and professional educational community. Sincerely Mr. Logan

I think this school does the best they can with the resources available. My daughter is in the 2nd grade and she absolutely loves her teachers and all the activities they provide her.

My child will be starting 2nd grade in the 07-08 school year. I am tremendously concerned with test scores. AIMS & Terra Nova scores are extremely low in comparison with other schools. More focus needs to be placed in all instructional areas to ensure that students are receiving the highest level of education possible.

My son is in the 2nd grade and for the past two years, I havn't been impressed with the communication. Anything sent home with my son either needs to be returned the next day, or should have already been returned. Before it even was sent home! Some of the items are even dated a week before. The nurse's office is also not high on my list. When my son was hurt and they called his dad on his cell phone, she choose to 'page this person' rather than leave a message to tell him what the emergency was.

The disipline is lacking. some teachers don't back up aides on playground. cafeteria way out of control on noise level. principal no back up for employees. foul language from staff used to often (not all staff) front office help is bad in communicating problems to principal. needs stronger dress code for front office, and some teachers. high population of gang activity on campus. foul language from students allowed to much. rules for playground not followed by students, when brought up to principal just over looked. too many fights. used to be a fun place to work. but when you get treated like you are just like some of them there, just for the paycheck, i got slammed because i really did care about the students and a few staff members treated me like a human being. the front office needs traing in public communication skills, and principal more backbone for diciplining.

I think Jefferson is a decent school, but I think there is a lot of room for improvement. Some of the teachers are better than others and when I had to switch classrooms mid year the principal was very accomodating. I believe they are on the lower scale for education but I think they care about the kids.

my son has adhd , my daughter has learning disable. The teachers at this school have been great working with both of them and helping get them in the right programs for them to do a lot better in class . my daughter as been in the band this past year and has loved it and the teacher . they are very caring staff at this school.

My daughter attends Kindergarten at Jefferson and I have not been all that impressed. At the beginning of the school year I asked her teacher if it was her intention to have the students reading by the end of the year, and she responded with a flat out 'no!' My daughter knew how to read before she started school, but the teacher was not willing to work extra with her. Her reply was 'they're only in kindergarten!'. Although I agree that children shouldn't be pushed, some kids are willing to learn at a faster rate and that was not taken into consideration. Now that we are approaching the end of the year, the teacher aid will occassionally read with my daughter or do flash cards with her, but for the most part, she spent the year learning the letters of the alphabet--something she's known since she was three!

I put all four of my children through Jefferson. Two that have already graduated are sucessful and happy in their lives. The others attend Brimhall and Skyline and both do very well. Many students that have attended Jefferson over the past 16 years have done well. Those that were not, wasn't just the schools fault. We have a no child left behind act. Holding teachers accountable. When does the government hold the parents accountable. Good attendence and being on time a critical to your childs learning. Supporting the school in helping children follow rules not only makes school a better place of learning, but also teaches your children respect, manners, and teaches them that we have rules in the world that need to be followed. I disagree with homework. It is a childs job to go to school, nobody wants to take their job home, why should the kids.

I have seen numerous people, ranging from children that are enrolled in this school, to adults that went to this school over 20 years ago, who either cannot read a lick or can barely read at a 2nd grade level, and yet this school continues to pass them along to the next grade. What does that tell you about the care and devotion to our children that this school has?? Tells me that they could really care less, as long as they don't have to deal with it. Or something disgusting like that.

they never updtae calander info, and I think the students saftey is over looked. This, I mean when students are being pick-up and dropped off to and from school.
