Osborn Middle School Reviews

Lots of programs to help kids do well. Caring and concerned staff. Helpful, friendly office. Students feel safe.

Great teachers, great vice-principal

I have had 4 children attend OMS and I truly believe they have received a quality education from teachers that are passionate about the success of our children. I truly appreciate how tangible leadership is at OMS and I have a great deal of respect for them.

I am very satisfied with the leadership at OMS, quality of work/dedication of the entire school staff towards students and parents. My son s transition to OMS was carefully managed by experienced academic counselors/teachers. He received the necessary academic evaluations to determine the best academic fit for his capacity and to ensure his overall potential will continue to be challenged for future successes. Teachers observe students so they can meet their immediate academic requests and challenge their potential. Every day, my son has a positive comment to make about the pleasant attitude from the staff. As a parent, I respect very much the hard work being done at OMS, the truthful commitment from teachers to our teenagers success, the professional and caring manner in which OMS is educating our teenagers. OMS teaches the importance and value of education, healthy relations among people, and respect for our school community.

I am a Registered Nurse of 37 years and have had the opportunity and pleasure of substituting for the School Nurse. The respect, polite and well organized large group of students has been far beyond my wildest dreams. There is no end to: Good Morning, thank you, excuse me, warm smiles, happy faces, opening the door, and , can I help you? The Teachers, and all the administration seem to know all the students by first name and always have kind words for them. Most touching - early in the AM , over the loud speaker, the Principal will announce, 'all stand for the Pledge of Allegiance', every man, woman and even students waiting in the school nurse office will stand with hand over heart and recite with the Principal, The Pledge of Allegiance. If I had grandchildren, Osborn Middle School would certainly be choice. Keep up the good work Osborn Middle School. Arlene Copley,

Both my children attended Osborn Middle School, and have gone on to great success in high school and college. They truly appreciate different people from different backgrounds, and are not afraid of others because of their color or language. The teachers and principals here have worked hard to make this a true middle school, designed to meet the needs of 12 anad 13-year old children. It is not simply a mini-high school. Focus is on the individual child and what that child needs to have to succeed. The Honors classes have been expanded over the past 2 years, adding more Algebra and advanced Literacy classes. Don't just read the comments--Any parent looking for a great middle school should visit and sit in classes and talk to teachers and kids about the school. You will be amazed at how caring and highly professional Osborn Middle School people are.

I am a library volunteer at Osborn Middle School. I am a retired teacher trainer/university instructor. I have come in contact with numerous middle school teachers and administrators in my career. I have found the OMS principal and vice principal to be two of the most dedicated, passionate administrators I have ever seen. They are deeply committed to ensuring maximum academic and personal growth for all students. Discipline seems fair, consistent and appropriate. The OMS teachers are enthusiatic and work hard to motivate students. They are willing to go the extra mile. They use current methodology, such as cooperative learning and differentiated instruction, to meet the needs of all students. The OMS academic curriculum is closely aligned to state standards. The atmosphere throughout the school is positive, accepting and inclusive. I love this school.

OMS would be the best middle school i could ever go to and I hope that kids going into Middle School at OMS would get the best experience ever in their lives. The teachers are caring and challenges students to do their best. My experiences at OMS will always stay with me forever. -Proud to be a Firehawk!

This school is great. My child's teachers are caring and challenge my child to do his best. I feel the school is safe. My son loves school

Both of my children attended OMS. This use to be a great school with a good academic focus. It seems to have lost that edge. The honors language and math programs have apparently been deemphasized and student life has become the focus. Lots of opportunities for kids to have fun, little chance to challenge their skills. I hope they get back on track because I have more kids coming. One thing that always bothered me was when my student was sent to detention, I never got a call.

I think that this school is the best middle school in the state because if has great teachers and a great campus!

My daughter graduated this school with honors she enjoyed all her life experiences here. Basketball was her very favorite, also here trip to Washington D.C. Now my son is entering 8th grade as he's so excited this year. I'm thankful for the great teaching staff and the diversity of programs OMS offers. 3 more years and my youngest will be there.

This school appears to be a pretty good school which offers great schedules and extracurricular activities.

This is the worst school I have ever seen they 'sococialy promoted' another kid who never went I dont know but to me those are the great cracks in which our kids fall threw.

My child came to OMS for his 8th grade year from a private school setting. I was concerned about the public school environment and about the quality of education he would receive. I am very pleased to say that he has had a very successful year. He has high caliber teachers who care and take the time to get to know their students well. The faculty and administration have responded quickly to any questions or concerns I've had and have communicated well regarding his academic progress. Although I still see many challenges in Arizona's public education system, OMS is working hard to educate and care for our kids in a complex world. My child has received a quality education and has continued to stay on top academically while balancing sports, friendships and the challenges of adolescence. Thank you, OMS, keep up the good work.

I have delt with the assistant principal at this middle school she is an absalute treasure to this school

I'm really upset about the quality of the school. The teacher quality is very low. They're not teaching what needs to be taught and they just are giving up with the children with the exception of Ms. Gammage, the math teacher.

This school is possibly the worst school in the world.I cant wait till my son gets out of there. If this school doesnt improve immediatly I will send my son to some better school such as owens whitney elementary school in Wikieup.

They have a sufficient amount of homework and excellent after school activities. The problem is they don't teach the students what they need to know. The honor students aren't being challenged and the other students aren't learning enough because they always get in trouble. Honestly, I don't like the 10th period. 10th period is where they go if they don't complete homework. When they get to high-school they're not going to have someone forcing them to do homework. It's about time they learn to be independent.

School administration is disorganized - twice this year when picking my son up, I received no acknowledgement or greeting from the staff when entering the school office - just pointing at where to sign him out at and after I initiated the conversation. In my years of coming into the office, I see students being ignored by staff - I'm sure this just doesn't happen on the days I happen to be there! Too many children are not at grade level and at risk of failing - teaching must poor or teachers presentation skills are lacking. It's so hard to find anything good to say.

I have been very unhappy with the education that my children have received from this school. Their leadership also doesn't appear very motivated in the direction of the children's successful academic futures.
