Palo Verde Middle School Reviews

The administration is great at this school. They truly attempt to work with their kids. I wish I could say the same about all of the teachers.

Both of my children attended PV, and both were very well prepared for high school. The children who attended PV on my son's football team all passed AIMS on their first try, so that says a lot for the preparation of students for the academic rigors of high school. Math instruction should, however, be offered in smaller groups. The classes are too large to offer individual attention to those who struggle in this important subject; however, overall, I give the school's academic prep very high marks...excellent in fact.

This school is a really awesome place for my son. The counselors and special needs professionals are excellent. I see them as ideal mentors. Each week there are multiple school activities going on. I have never had any trouble talking to the principle about my son's progress or questions with anything. The teachers are available for the parents and students needs. We have are haveing a very positive experience at Palo Verde!

This is a horribale school. Not much time to swich classes. Im the highest team but it is so boring exept when ms.Kervin teaches history. Teachers if you read this pleses dont give me an f-. Some times its fun when you guys teach to=] its just school thats boring. You guys can be fun to

This is a great school! If you are lucky to be in Cougar team you'll get the highest education. Ms. Bringgold, Ms. Kervin, Ms. Chisholm, Mrs. Hildebrant and Mrs. Munck really care about your education and are willing to help you in anything you need. I've in that school and in the Cougar team since the beggining of 7th grade and I love it. Keep up the good work Cougars!!!! P.M.

I've had two older children that came out of Palo Verde 5 years ago and they had a good experience. It seems like it has just got worse as the years go by. There are few good teachers left. The school needs more funding to provided more after school sports baseball and football. There needs to be more incentives to get these students motivated. The lunch meals need improvement need to go back to the good home made cooking no more fast food. Prayer also needs to be brought back. That should be number 1.

I am the PTO Vice President & the parental involement is terrible however the only people who can fix that is the parents, so that should'nt be held against the school. The teachers and staff can only do so much, it is up to these parents to become engaged & show their children they care by showing up to events & volunteer & show up to parent teacher conferences. I am very involved in this school and the staff is awesome and they have a termendous amount of interest in the students. The teachers are awesome on responding to emails when it concerns my daughters progress and even welcomed me with open arms when I attended school with my daughter for an entire day when she decided to let her grades slip (trying to be cool) & now her CPA is back up to 3.7.

This school is ok, but not good enough. The teachers and students are great.

I have a daughter who attends PV and it has been a wonderful experiance. The Staff have done a great job helping with the transision from Elementry school to Middle School. My husband and I are grateful to have found such a wonderful and caring staff. With the way schools are now a days in Arizona its hard to find that.

With a new principal last year things were not quite as good as they should be. This year Mrs. Schaffer and staff seem to be on top of things. I feel much safer having my child at the school this year than I did last. The reaading intervention is outstanding! Many wonderful teachers. Parental involvment is the biggest issue. I really like the uniforms.

I was once enrolled here, big mistake. I told my mother everyday that I did not want to go, yet she made me. I got expelled from the school after I threatened other students. I was bullied everyday, the homework was tough, the time constraints were rough (they expect you to run from one side of the school to the other, no joke). The only thing I liked about this school were some of the teachers. Half actually [cared] about your education while the others didn't have a care in the world!

This school has been a great disappointment. I have never gone through the things that I am going through now and I have two older children. There is no discipline at this school.

The school is over crowded so that causes a lot of problems. There is a lot of disipline and many rules. Unfortunatley with so many kids things still happen. Many of the children come from homes with problems and bring those to school. The other problems are old buildings, a poor landscape, not enough money for more resource officers, terrible menu. Most of the teachers are wonderful and very caring, they try their best with what they have. Given the choice again I would not send my child to Palo Verde.

Please don't send your child to this school. There is no discipline and they do whatever they want to. Not only that but look at the test scores, that tells it all!

Yes there is music, sports... We think they need more sports programs. They don't have baseball or football after school programs. My son is happy with the instruction from his teachers. His gpa is 3.5 The school is prompt to respond to any undirseable situation that may arise.

I am most impressed with the teachers and principals at Palo Verde Middle School, for their open-door policy to parents. They respond quickly to phone calls and emails regarding questions I may have about my two sons' grades, behavior and school projects. With the school's tough stance on anti-bullying and gang-related activities, I feel safe sending my children to Palo Verde. The school offers a wide range of music, art, sports and other extracurricular activities. We are fortunate enough to qualify for a 21st Century grant that provides after-school programs, from remedial math to chorus. With more than 75 percent of our school qualifying for free and reduced lunches, our school is greatly in need of these types of programs to keep our students occupied in positive activities. As far as parent involvement goes, this year the school resurrected the PTA to allow more parents to become more involved in the school.

My daughter, niece and nephew attended here and all had excellent experiences. This may be tempered by the fact that the parents were very involved. They have some amazing teachers and programs geared to helping females succeed in the sciences (eg MESA. Outstanding teachers: Janelle Chism, Pam Whiffen.

The teachers at Palo Verde are outstanding. I am afraid that is because they must be for the children to learn anything. I feel that there are far too many students at the middle school.

My daughter went here for her JH education, and it was a nightmare. Their lack of discipline is attrocious. PV is bad news.

I've had the unfortunate experience of having two kids in this school. Never put your children in this school. The staff is nice to your face and nice to the students when the parents are around, but when you aren't the kids are screamed at, told to sit down when they need help, called lazy, insulted, etc.I have never heard one good comment about this school, from any parent. I also had a nephew here. He was bullied on the bus every day, and no one would do one thing about it. My daughter told me every day that she hated it there. that the teachers were mean, one of them curses at them regularly. no one will ever help her, and this is a child that needs academic help. I give up on public schools, my children will never go to one in this state again. They need serious overhauls, and need to get rid of teachers who don't care about kids. But no one will ever do anything I doubt.

PV has a few problems with nasty seventh graders but eigth graders are actually better behaved, which was kind of a shock. Ms. Herrman, the Principal, and Ms. Hollingsworth, the vice Principal, are great. So are most of the teachers. They also have great after school classes, and a superb reading program.

After several children I removed my kids from Palo Verde this year. There were numerous problems but the camel's back broke. They ignore behavior problems now that they have started mandatory uniforms (see how much better it is - especially when you don't report them). There are some very good teachers, but it seemed that there were enough bad ones to really cause problems. I have had two daughters (6 years apart) with the same science teacher. I would have to regrade the work and send it back to the teacher who seemed to have absolutely no idea. On the other hand, my daughter had an exceptional algebra teacher. Just don't disagree with the principle on anything. She just doesn't get it and doesn't seem about to anytime soon. And the site council is hand-picked by her, so don't bother going there either.

My son went to 7th grade here in 02/03. I can't imagine a third world country's school being any worse than this. Constant bullying, no feedback from teachers, no follow through on discipline problems. One boy beat up my son on campus and he was suspended for one day, and received no other discipline. The principal 'talks the talk' but definitely does not 'walk the walk.' If you want your child to get a real world experience, and toughen them up, go here. If you want your child to get real education in a safe environment, do not go anywhere near Palo Verde.
