Shea Middle School Reviews

My child is in special education and I find the program, teachers and district psychologist outstanding. The class size is small and I see my daughters reading and verbal skills skyrocketing.

Great teachers, awesome sports program, caring counselors. Beautiful location.

I love SHEA great people and amazing teachers... the Dream team and the A team have amazing teachers! Plenty of ways to keep your kids out of drugs and gangs with all the wonderful things the school ofers. You would be crazy not to send your kid here. If they get picked on someone always stands up and thats a garentee

This is, I believe, the best school in the Paradise Valley School District. The teachers that my daughter had on the Dream Team were Excellent and the Vice Principal is the best and knows how to get the job done. There are some racial issues regarding the students though. But, we really miss this school and wish there were more like it.

I think this is the best school in the whole district. Teachers are very nice and the DREAM TEAM rocks! rules and regulations are always being follwed. I hope when i go to shadow, i can remeber shea>......... i have also made the best of friends, an guy friends.

This school is preety cool, great people, great teachers. this school will be great for your child. I will be going there this year, in the 8th grad..... this school is great!.

Both my son and daughter have attended this school. My daughter this year (2006-7) has had a better experience than my son previously. The school went through a lot of teacher changes, but it has seemed to stabilize. It is I think the best middle school in Paradise Valley School District. Parent involvement is one of the most important things in a school, and Shea Middle School has a lot of that. I'm not thrilled with the emphasis they put on dating, or bringing a date to the Valentines day dance, but I guess I'm in the minority when it comes to thinking 12-13 year olds are too young for that. The school does offer a nice after school sports program, which is great and prepares the kids for high school sports. Overall the school does a good job teaching this age group.

This is a great school and is a good place to be. It is right next to the high school for a great transition. It has a great staff. You really should consider this school.

The academic program seemed to be strong for 7th grade. The teachers were caring and responsive. The school has a number of electives to choose from including drama, language and computers. Parent involvment is encouraged. Power school makes is possible to see your child's grades every week.

Loved the School. Loved the Teachers. Lacked appropriate discipline follow through standards.

As a parent of a special ed student, all they did for my child was teach him the bare necessaties and pass him when he should have failed, and so he did in high school. He was not prepared for high school and is now a drop out due to the fact they continually passed him from grade to grade and he did not know enough to pass high school classes.

My son currently attends Shea. I love the weekly emails from the school. They shows the detail of his grades, attendance and progress reports. The teachers are receptive and involved. Being my oldest, I noticed it was harder for me to accept less babying and more personal responsibility placed on each student. I commend the school.

Shea Middle School now uses technology to communicate with our community. Parents can go online to see their child's grades, attendance and homework on a daily basis. They can even e-mail staff members with concerns or questions. We have an open door policy, welcoming all patrons to stop by and visit our campus anytime. Our 1/2 staff development days are used to train teachers in the Arizona Standards. We only have 6 staff development days during the school year. Shea has just been labeled a highly performing school. We are very proud of our students and community. Please visit our website at http://shms.pvusd.k12.az.us.

I feel the staff needs to make themselves more accessible to the parents and students after school ends. The teachers definitely need to check their messages daily and return phone calls. Students that have difficulties or fall behind for whatever reason have a very hard time catching up when there isn't anyone there after school hours to help them. They also need to be stricter with the students and teach them more about how real life really is and what will be expected of them when they get older. I also feel that they have way too much time 'out' of school for half days (which seems to be bi-weekly) for reasons that could be taken care of during their work day. (After school hours.)The children need to be 'in' school to learn.

They definately need to be stricter on the students and encourage love of learning. The school needs to work on unity of the students.

Teachers take the end of the physical school day quite literally. Seem to feel the union contract means their professional day ends at 2:30. This leaves little time for students that require more instruction than what is provided during class. It also leaves little time for grading papers, assessing students' problem areas and targeted lesson planning. Some of the teachers make themselves more inaccessible than others.
