Sundance Elementary School Reviews

My daughter and son both attended Sundance and went on to do well at Centennial. The teachers have always been caring and friendly. If I had one complaint, it would be the computer system used to update parents as to their children's grades or 'missing' homework. I often got notice that my kids were 'missing' work that was in fact turned in. The same system sends out a notice showing a poor grade where no work has been graded because the value of a test gets entered before the grade.

Mrs. Horbeek and Mr. Duguid are the best principles I have seen in my daughters school career. The whole school atmosphere positive and encouraging.

I had 3 of my 4 kids go here, and I wish I had found them in time for my oldest to have come! Mrs Hornbeek is the best administrator I have ever met-BAR NONE!The office staff is always lovely and polite to me and the kids. The teachers have all tries very hard to be accommodating when there were difficulties. They tested two of my kids for assistance and helped with their learning disabilities as much as they could. I am currently homeschooling one child, and they are even helping with textbooks! I am grateful I met them.

I have mixed feeling regarding this school. Although it is a much better school than the one my children should be going to, I do have some concerns. I am never notified of school events until sometimes it is too late. I don't like that my children hve to grade their own papers, or get detention because they forget their planners. The principles are very nice and will always resolve issues immediately for me, but I sometimes feel there is a lack of communication from the teachers regarding my kids progress in class. It seems I am always the one calling them when I discover an academic issue. The school still provides art and music classes which have been discontinued in other school disctricts. The office staff, Barbara and Denise are always helpful and most of the teachers display a caring attitude. All schools have problems, but overall I am happy with this school

I have had some bad experiences with this school. There are a lot of extracurricular activities for families to enjoy, however, the notice sometimes comes home that day or a day or two after the event. Every event I have attended has been extremely disorganized and often runs behind schedule. I have tried to eat lunch with my daughter but the children don't even file into the lunch room until well after their lunch hour starts. What I observed was a very disorganized system of getting the children into the lunch room, seated, and eating in a timely manner. My daughter often comes home starving because she did not have enough time to finish her lunch. I also had a classroon issue that I tried to address with the principal, she said she would look into it and call me back, that was 5 months ago and still no call.

I understand that school districts can not always schedule school days and meetings to cater to every parents needs, referring to parent work schedules. I do feel it is a shame that any parent would judge the quality of the school staff based on this. Any parent at Sundance knows the staff is excellent. There is no perfect school anywhere. The best quality of this school staff is when you do have conflict, the principal is more than willing to come up with a solution for both sides. I have had issues come up and I was going to pull my child from this school. The principal handled the situation quickly and kept monitoring the situation. My child is very blessed to have had a positive experience at Sundance. The quality of a school I feel, is based on the type of principal. Mrs Hornbeek is one of the best.

To many complaints to post. Safety and discipline priorities need to be addressed! Teachers simply don't care about enforcing timelines and communicating. The web page to review grades is not updated.Working parents don't stand a chance in knowing what is going on. Emergency situations are not communicated etc. etc.

I absolutely love Sundance Elementary! I went there when I was in grade school along with my 3 brothers. Now my 2 children go there, and my whole family loves it! We live where we do just so they can attend this school.

My children are just starting their education and Sundance and we can say enough about the wonderful Principal Mrs. Hornbeek & asst. Mr. Dugid. I love the teachers my kids have & had. We have noticed that the staff really gets involved with extracarricular activities and they encourage parent envolvement as well. Overall we love Sunance and love being involved in our childrens education.

My daughter has been at sundance since the second grade. She is now in 6th grade. She has only had one bad teacher at this school. Everyone there is involved in the kids, not just their teacher. With the education system the way it is today, I feel blessed to have my child in such a wonderful school. To all the teachers and staff at Sundance, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making my daughters school experience one that is truly preparing her for the rest of her life.

I feel this school cares more about it's teachers than it's students. If your child goes here, you will understand what I mean. As parents most of us all work. Well Sundance and the rest of the Peoria school district will send your kids home half days, now before lunch, a couple of times a month. What parent can go to work for two hours and tell their boss that they need to leave because the teachers want to have a meeting and my kid is being let out at 10am? I moved my child to the Washington school district to an excelling performing school. Thanks to greatschools.org.

I Have 2 children currently enrolled at sundance. I have been truly blessed by the wonderful teachers my children have encountered. My oldest is in 7th grade and my youngest is in 3rd grade. Gay Keifer, Patrice Nick, Mr Blackford and Mrs Kennedy are truly gifted and amazing teachers. Both of my children have attended sundance since kindergarten and I could not be any happier with the results i've had with these teachers. The Office staff of Gigi and Barbara are always helpful and understanding and Mrs Yaeger is a wonderful nurse.
