William T Machan Elementary School Reviews

Large English Learner population and lots of potential to be a great school with teacher retention.

well im from the 08 class and this school was great. the teachers are really good at helping the students and its a very controlled enviroment. the school overall is good its just the lack of respect kids have these days that make the school look bad.

If we were talking about Machan last year I would not have much to say; however only a few weeks into the 2007-08 school year I must say I am impressed. I believe the school did slot of revaluating during the summer & @ the 1st open house I believe that they accepted their downfalls & sound like they are going to become more of a proud school. Im going to be supportive & have given Machan another chance.

I have had at least one of my children in this elementary school for the past 15 years. I believe WT Machan has the best school 'climate' of any elementary school I have seen (I have worked for 3 different elementary schols during the last 15 years). This K - 8 grade school has promoted 'community' in its students from the first day kids come on campus as 5 year olds. My children have gotten a good education - the teaching staff is excellent. Two of my children have been able to successfully participate in the rigorous IB college prep program in high school. The staff have done their job in preparing my kids to be successful high school students. Machan has a dual language program available. This program has allowed my kids to be second language communicators from a young age. Parent involvement is highly encourages. Great School.

The primary language spoken is Spanish, students that are not spanish speaking are often left out. Meetings are primarily in spanish, engilish only individuals are left out. Spanish speaking students suffer for this when they reach high school and they will then be required to participate in English. Some very brilliant minds are pushed to quit school because the English language was not priority. Those children paying for their lunch are denied a decent meal if their money has run out. Parents are not notified when this happens. Programs, staff and teachers prior to 1980 wereavailable to all students and treated all fairly. Students were all prepared to participate in high school. I feel that Machan has the ability to do better. Many of the graduates prior to 1980 are doing very well today. To many children are left behind.

Machan is two way immersion school that has some of the best biligual teachers in the state. The learning envirnoment is so positive and the childern are so happy . If you want your child to learn a second language this is the best school to achieve that goal.
